戒堂

戒堂是佛教廟宇建築的一種，多見於南傳上座部寺廟，是僧人受戒、誦經之場所^[1]^[2]。根據戒律的規定，戒堂是僧團集結行業之劃界（sīmā）^[3]。

各地傳統[編輯]

緬甸語中，戒堂稱為「登」（緬甸語：သိမ်；Thein），來自巴利語的sīmā，意譯為「界」。在緬甸以奘房為中心的佛寺中，戒堂是重要且常見的建築，但亦有獨立而建的做法^[2]^[4]。緬甸撣族寺廟的戒堂稱為「辛」（သိမ်ႇ；Sim），是專為僧人活動而設的場所^[5]^[6]。

在泰國，戒堂稱為「烏博索」（泰語：อุโบสถ；Ubosot）或「博」（โบสถ์；Bot），源自巴利語的uposathāgāra，意為舉行布薩儀式的場所^[7]。戒堂是泰民族的窪寺式廟宇的主要建築，亦用作公共用途^[2]^[5] 。在泰國中部的佛寺中，戒堂是全寺的中心；泰北寺廟則以舍利塔為中心^[5]。寺廟中最重要的佛像就通常在戒堂中供奉。

寮國和泰國東北的依善地區稱戒堂為「辛」（寮語：ສິມ；泰語：สิม）。

泰寮民族的傳統是用八塊鎮邪石（ใบเสมา；Bai sema）劃定戒堂的結界。這種做法可以追溯到陀羅缽地文明時期^[3]。在南傳佛教寺廟中，精舍和戒堂都是供奉佛像的主要禮佛場所，二者最大的區別即戒堂周圍是有鎮邪石劃出結界的。
