威廉·丹佛
威廉·丹佛（英语：William G. Dever 1933年11月27日—，出生于美国肯塔基州的路易维尔[1]）是一个美国考古学家与旧约圣经的学者，专长于圣经时代（圣经中发生的年代）古以色列和古代近东历史。1975年至2002年间，曾担任美国亚利桑那大学的近东考古和人类学教授。 他亦是莱康明大学近东考古学的名誉教授。

退休后，丹佛经常在圣经历史性相关的问题上发表论述，也常批判否定圣经历史价值的学者。但丹佛也不是圣经直译主义的支持者，他曾写道：
我并不把圣经当做圣典来读…… 我实际上甚至不是有神论者。我一直以来的观点（特别是在我最近写的几本书中），首先圣经的叙述确实是“故事”，其经常是虚构的并带有宣传性质，但这些故事常包含可靠的历史讯息。[2]
现今的考古学必须能够挑战和证实圣经叙事。圣经里的描写的某些事确实发生了，而某些则无。关于亚伯拉罕、摩西、约书亚和所罗门的叙述可能反应了一些对于人与地域的历史记忆，但圣经“超群不凡”的印象是不现实并与考古证据相矛盾。[3]
