1337x成立於2007年，在2016年KickassTorrents關閉後愈受歡迎[1]。2016年10月，它推出了具有新功能的全新網站設計[1][3]。此網站被Google搜索封禁，不會出現在Google搜索的結果中[1][3]，這一封禁舉措是2015年在Feelgood Entertainment的要求下採取的[1][4]；同年，該網站從舊的.pl域轉移到.to，其中部分原因是為了逃避封鎖[1][3][5]。
1337x的設計可以與現已關閉的h33t相比較[6]。由於海盜灣有潛在可能被關閉，1337x被認為是其替代品[7][8]。
