自由鸟（学名：Eleutherornis cotei）即自由恐鹤，是一种已经灭绝的中型掠食性鸟类，是恐鹤科的一员，其身高可达1.5米。当其他恐鹤科成员皆在美洲发现时，这种中始新世的鸟类却在法国与瑞士发现。[1]

自由鸟的部分遗骸是在法国里昂附近和瑞士索洛图恩州的埃格金根。2013年，Delphine Angst等人对自由鸟(Eleutherornnis)进行了重新审查和描述。[2][1]
描述[编辑]
自由鸟是一种中等体型的恐鹤，其可达1.5米都身高显示了其基干于特化的组合。与裸翼鸟一样，其跗跖骨的跗部中部扩大，而与裸翼鸟相比，其髂骨的前髋臼侧向更窄且其综荐骨的神经棘更加疏松，这一特征与更进步的恐鹤更为相似。[1]
地理[编辑]
自由鸟是目前已知的唯一在欧洲发现的恐鹤科成员，也是该科极少数在美洲之外发现的成员，[3]尽管2011年，研究人员描述了在阿尔及利亚发现的拉氏鸟，但这个物种的分类地位仍然存在争议。[4]
