黑人抬棺专业团队来自加纳阿散蒂地区。以本杰明·艾杜（Benjamin Aidoo）为首的{{lang|en|Nana Otafrija Pallbearing Services}}^[4]团队开始了持续的护柩服务。后来，本杰明·艾杜决定在他们的护柩工作中加入舞蹈。在葬礼上抬棺跳舞需要收取额外费用。^[5]团队首次成名于2017年，英国广播公司、美联社等在当时先后对他们进行了报道^[6]^[7]。2020年4月，该团队成为黑色幽默的网络迷因，有网友为他们抬棺跳舞的视频配上背景音乐，亦有网友将人们遭遇各种事故的片段与他们抬棺跳舞的片段进行混剪。这些视频被广泛地上传至TikTok、YouTube、bilibili等影音網站，剪辑中所常用的音乐《Astronomia》也随之在全球竄紅^[8]。在巴西等地，该迷因也与COVID-19防疫的宣传广告相结合^[9]^[10]。

加纳还有类似的其他抬棺团队。曾有团队在抬棺起舞时不慎將棺材滑落，逝者被甩出^[11]^[12]。
