In 2008 whites killed other whites 10.9 times as often as they killed someone who was black, and blacks killed other blacks 5.6 times as often as they killed someone who was white. The rate did not change very much from 1980 for blacks, when it was 6.3, but was twice as high for whites, 22.8, that year. Blacks have been killing about the same number of whites, 6.6 per 100,000 vs 8.0 per 100,000 in 2008, but whites have been killing significantly more blacks, 2.1 per 100,000 vs. 3.7 per 100,000. But blacks mostly kill other blacks, and whites mostly kill other whites.
